The best alternatives to the been app

been is a simple, long-standing app for ticking off the countries and US states you have visited. You fill the map in by hand, and Premium, from £1.99 on the UK App Store, adds cities, airports and more. Its apps run on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

People look for alternatives when they want Android, more detail such as regions and cities, a map that fills itself in, or flight stats alongside the map. Facts were checked on each company's own site, UK App Store or Google Play listing. TripStow made this page and is one of the apps listed, so every description is factual and cited.

TripStow

Best for a map that fills itself in from your bookings, with flight stats and itineraries too.

TripStow builds your scratch-off map from the booking emails you forward or the flight log you import, so countries appear from your real trips, ready to scratch off, coloured by air, sea or overland, with countries you only passed through shown separately. Trips without a booking can be added by hand. It also keeps a lifetime flight log and stats, and organises upcoming trips. Its free countries visited map, on the website, needs no account.

Visited

Best for countries, regions and cities, with comparisons and lists.

Visited shows the share of the world you have seen, countries by continent, cities and your most visited places, and compares you with other travellers. Like been, places are added by hand: it does not track your location or read photo locations.[2][3]

Skratch

Best for a scratch-off map of countries and cities, with eSIMs.

Skratch is a scratch-off map you mark as you travel, with cities and regions as purchases. It also sells eSIMs for travel data.[4][5]

Polarsteps

Best for a map filled in by GPS while you travel, with a printed book.

Polarsteps tracks your route automatically during a trip and adds the places to your map, with stats on countries and distance and optional printed Travel Books. Places can also be added by hand.[6][7][8]
